SPRING 2018 ORC: WEEK TWO

Welcome to week two of the One Room Challenge! My squad (mom, dad, and aunt) and I hit the ground running last Wednesday.

This transformation requires a ton of painting. If you've been following me on Instagram stories, the secrets out, I'm painting all TEN doors in the foyer Back Blue by Farrow & Ball.

All of the trim in the house is oil paint, so before getting the satisfaction of seeing the doors go from bright white to dark blue, we had to use this nasty primer first. Some people say if you sand the doors, and use a regular primer, they won't peel, but I've tried that once, and it didn't work; I'm not taking any chances this time!

In addition to painting the doors, we're updating all of the doorknobs in the house. We chose these gorgeous brass egg knobs from Emtek. I decided to go with the French antique finish with oval rosette. I'm so excited to see these installed because they will elevate the entire space and make our hollow, standard doors look much more expensive.

This week, we also started pinning up the panel molding supplied to us by Metrie. The panel molding will add dimension and interest to the room. Along with the panel mold, we'll beef up the baseboards, and existing crown molding with Metrie products.

So what's the vision for this space?

Over the next few weeks, there's a lot more painting in store, more panel molding to install, a fireplace refresh, and the staircase makeover. I was planning on painting the stairs white with a faux black runner, but I'm chickening out! Instead, I may stain the treads ebony. However, the house already has two different stains on the floor, and this would introduce a third stain. I'd love to hear any suggestions you have!
